FORMER UN envoy and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) presidential hopeful, Olara Otunnu, has described Uganda’s hosting of the Commonwealth meeting as a money-minting venture.

“The public accounts committee is uncovering this in Parliament. Sub-standard cars were bought and the officials pocketed the rest of the cash,” Otunnu told a crowd in Kakira town on Friday. He was on his Busoga tour which started in Namutumba and Iganga on Thursday.

Otunnu pledged to make government officials accountable to the people once UPC takes office.

He decried the deplorable health conditions in the country, arguing that hospitals should be built in every district.
Meanwhile, a crowd at Busoga Square in Jinja town waited for him in vain. They were dispersed at 6:00pm by the resident district commissioner, Christopher Bagonza.
