The Police in Soroti are investigating the Soroti resident state attorney over allegations of unlawfull confinement.

The Police in Soroti are investigating the Soroti resident state attorney over allegations of unlawfull confinement.

The attorney, James Opio, is accused of locking up Benard Tumukwatse, a loans officer, who was on official duty to recover a bank loan.

Tumukwatse works with Pride Microfinance in the district.
The mid-eastern regional Police commander, Alison Agaba, said Tumukwatse was rescued by the Police from Opio’s house.
“The Police opened a case against Opio. But in a twist of events, Opio also opened a case against Tumukwatse for criminal trespass,” Agaba said.

“Both of them were not detained after their statements were recorded. We are yet to complete our investigations Then the file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution,” he added.
