Bugiri district has distributed over 8,000 condoms to the youth.

The coordinator of the Youth Effort in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS and Poverty, Innocent Matyoli, said the youth usually engage in unprotected sex during the festive season, adding that the condoms would help reduce the danger of contracting HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

He appealed to the youth who fail to abstain from sex to always use a condom.

The condoms were distributed during a brief ceremony held at the organisation’s offices on Wakooli Road in Bugiri town yesterday.

The youth, who had expected to eat and drink, were shocked when they were given condoms.

Many walked away, saying the organisation was wasting their time.

Matyoli said over 50,000 condoms had been distributed to mainly commercial sex workers in Naluwerere and Namasere trading centres since the beginning of the year.

The resident district commissioner, Margret Mwanamoiza, urged the youth to avoid cross-generation sex.
She hailed the organisation for its effort in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Mwanamoiza said organisations involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS should unite for a better impact.
