THE Police in Kibaale district are investigating reports that a Police officer carried out a postmortem examination on a deceased person during the burial.

Francis Tumuhaise, the officer-in-charge of Kyenzige Police post, allegedly opened a casket and examined the body of Paul Bisibire before the mourners in Mugalike village, Kyanaisoke sub-county.

This followed reports that Bisibire could have died of poisoning.

The relatives of the deceased and mourners had a bitter exchange of words with the Police officer, questioning what authority he had to carry out the examination.

The situation was calmed by the intervention of the Kibaale district LC5 chairperson, George Namyaka, and the Kamwenge resident district commissioner, Ignatius Besisira.

The son of the deceased, Omuhereza Kusemererwa, wondered why the Police waited for the burial to examine the body.

The district criminal investigations department chief, Mich Ogwal, said investigations were going on and that Tumuhaise would be prosecuted if found guilty.
