Nadine Mariah Kirabo, 9, P.4, Mother Majeri Primary School, Bweyogerere.
What does your title, Cardinal mean?

The title Cardinal comes from the Latin word Cardo. It means overseer. A cardinal is a religious figure appointed by the pope to any country or area.

Did you get it on Christmas Day?

No.

Bill Charles Katamba, 10,
Kampala Junior Academy.

How many Christmas Days have you seen?
They are many.

You pray for yourself only?

No I pray for you, the country and the whole world.

Where do come from?

I am from a small village called Kamaggwa in Masaka.

They told us the Pope has the keys to Heaven, can I ask him to open for me?

The Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church. He is not the one supposed open for you. To go to heaven, it depends to way you behave.

Where did you get the idea of joining Priesthood?

From watching the altar boys in my village.

Juliet Monique Duplessis, 8, P.4 at St. Anthony Primary School, Kajjansi.

Why are you putting on a dress?

It is not a dress. It is called a cassock. It is for religious people.

Do you have children like us?

No. But all of you are my granddaughters and grandsons.

Rogers Ssekamwa, P.6,
Hormisdallen Primary School,
Kamwokya

Did you ever dream of becoming a Cardinal when you were young?

No.

How do you feel now?

It is challenging.

Rebecca Nannono, 8, P.3,
Uganda Martyrs P/S,
Namugongo.

How did Father Christmas come?

The story of Father Christmas is based on St. Nicholas, or Santa Claus, which comes from the Dutch Nicholas, a Christian leader from Turkey, in the 4th century AD. He was shy and wanted to give money to the poor without them knowing about it. One day, he climbed the roof of a house and dropped a purse of money down the chimney. It landed in stockings a girl had put by the fire to dry.

Do you have a father and mother?
No. I lost both of my parents. But I have my aunties and other relatives.

Simon Peter Ssempijja, 11,
Najja Parents’, Kabowa
When you were young, did you have a special
Christmas game?

Yes but I cannot remember. We drew
banana leaves and took gifts to baby Jesus.

Arthur Alaali, 12, P.6,
St. Anthony Primary School, Kajjansi

What is Boxing Day?

This word comes from the custom, which started in middle 800 A.D.
A church opened their alms (boxes) in which people had placed gifts for a newborn baby, Jesus and gave the contents to poor people in the neighbourhoods on that day.
