THE Government should encourage national leaders, especially those who have played key roles like the late nationalist and Pan-Africanist Ateker Ejalu to document their lives. The Government should lend a hand and meet part of the cost of publishing their books.
I believe there are many willing to do so but are financially handicapped and spend much of their time serving the nation. The little money left is for their survival.
Leaders like Edward Rugumayo, Hope Kivengere and many others have promised to write. Ejalu went with a lot of information to his grave which would benefit posterity. No leader from Teso has held as many positions as Ejalu did.
When Charles Harrison left his job as Editor of Uganda Argus Ejalu was appointed its Editor. As Editor of the People, he was close to the powers of the day. He was director of information in the East African Community and the list goes on.
