MBARARA - Police and security operatives, in a clean-up operation in Mbarara town, arrested over 60 suspected gangsters who have been terrorising residents and passengers. On Wednesday morning, Kakoba and Nyamityobora Police posts carried out a clean up operation in slums of Kisenyi, Kijungu, the town centre, Bus and Taxi Parks. The suspects included Annet Kyogabairwe, Tibasima Kadogo, Gordon Tweheyo, Robert Atuhaire, Godfrey Nyehangane, Jonas Natujuna, Dogo Nimwesiga, Kazeyi Tumwine and Hassan Mwanje.

Malaria unit set in Kabale

KABALE - Research officers from the Ministry of Health have opened up a malaria research unit at Kamukira Health Centre IV in Kabale Municipality to research on the use of ovacado seed and Artemisia as an alternative for malaria treatment. This was said by Patrick Ogwang, herbal medicine researcher from the ministry after commissioning the research recently. Ogwang said they will spend three years on the research so malaria can reduce by 50%. Enock Ndyabanawe who started the project in Kampala said the medicine has been tested and found to be the best.

IDPs use rat traps on thieves

PADER - THE Internally displaced persons in Acholi sub region have resorted to using the traps meant to catch edible rats and other wild animals to net thieves who sneak into their gardens at night and steal their simsim.
Pader RDC, Santo Okot Lapolo said that some thieves went into people’s gardens in Parabongo sub county last week and harvested 16 sacks of simsim at night and then left behind sh5000, five hand-hoes and a letter of appreciation and advice to the owners of the gardens to grow more.
