LC5 advises leaders APAC-The LC5 vice chairperson, Bob Okae, has advised leaders to avoid corruption and abuse of office in 2009. While addressing sub-county chiefs at a meeting in Omodi Hostel last Tuesday, Okae said several cases of graft were reported last year. He said the audit department and public accounts committee would be strengthened. Okae noted that corruption led to shoddy work and poor service delivery. He said perpetrators would be prosecuted in court. “Resist the temptations of political and religious differences in development projects,” Okae said.

Health centre refutes death
LIRA-Barr Health Centre has refuted reports that 12 patients died last month after the health centre closed to prepare for Christmas. The reports were found to be untrue after leaders visited the health centre on December 31. “Twelve people did not die at the health unit. The old woman who died wasknown as Yodia. She died from home in the hands of her relatives days after she was referred to Lira Hospital. Her relatives instead took her home. They did that because she was in a terminal condition,” the health centre’s clinical officer, Misake Ocen, said.
