KNOCKING around since 2004, Priscilla Kalibbala’s star has never really swollen to the point of bursting. Yet, the singer has been recording and performing with reasonable aplomb for close to five years.

She first caught our attention with Gumikiriza, which garnered her recognition across the country.
Between then and 2006, she released a couple of worthwhile tracks, including the up-tempo Afro beat tune, Mwana Ggwe, which enjoyed the number one spot on the East Africa Radio’s countdown.

She also treated us to the power ballad, Gyetwasokera — a collabo with tenor man, Qute Kaye — which some critics judged a classic. But that was just about the last we heard of her.

After a two-year lull, the bubbly singer is back with a hat trick of tracks which should front her as one of the artistes to watch out for this year.

The standout track is the acoustic guitar-led Boo, a mid tempo Afrobeat track. For the uninitiated, ‘Boo’ is a term of endearment for a lover in American street speak.

Then there is the highly-danceable Kwata (touch), on which Kalibbala delivers her sexiest vocals.

She then raises the tempo slightly on Ssebo, an honest love letter to the man she has fallen for.

All in all, these songs are less likely to stand the test of time, but for now, they are all Kalibbala needs to make a come back.
