Dear Doctor, For three years, I have had pain in the chest, hands and joints. The pain always comes a week before my periods. Is it because of the periods, or it is another disease? Nagitta
Dear Nagitta, A period is the outward sign of a cycle of hormones in a woman’s body. This cycle controls the fertility of a woman. The hormones involved go all over the body. They can produce effects in other parts of the body.
The pains that you are talking about are very likely due to the effects of some of these hormones.
Effects which are period-related in some women include; pre-menstrual stress syndrome (a feeling of changes in wellbeing), vaginal itching or discomfort, migraines, candida and acne. Consult a health worker.
