MOSES Twesigomwe has won the right to challenge Maj. Gen. Francis Nyangweso for the UOC presidency. The former national athlete was cleared to contest in the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) polls after a vetting process done internally by the committee.

UOC goes to polls on Saturday at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala. UOC secretary Gabriel Oloka yesterday released a list of eligible candidates who included Twesigomwe. The former distance runner becomes the second person to challenge Nyangweso who has led UOC since 1981.

Dr. James Sekajugo, a renown sports physician, unsuccessfully challenged Nyangweso in the 1990s.

“We have done the groundwork. We are sure to win,” Twesigomwe said while officiating at the East Africa Half marathon at Namboole yesterday. Nyangweso has meanwhile kept low ahead of the polls.

Roger Ddungu and Okot Omwony (vice president), Salim Musoke (treasurer), Oloka (secretary) and Onegi P’Minga (assistant secretary) are seeking re-election.
