Residents of Kiteredde parish in Bulera sub-county, Mityana district have received a fully equipped health unit. Mboona Health Unit was donated by the Mityana North MP, Dr. Gordon Ssematiko. Ssematiko said the facility would enable residents easily access health services.

“The nearest health unit was at Kyamusisi, which is about 10 miles from here. The other was at Kiryokya, which is over eight miles,” he said at the launch of the clinic on Monday.

Ssematiko called upon the residents and their local leaders to elect a management committee that will help in the management and sustaining of the unit.

He pledged to construct another health unit at Kigo in Kiryokya parish to improve the health standards of the area.

“The problems of these areas are basically education and health. I have already contacted the education ministry to take up our primary school in Kiteredde, but the district is delaying the approval,” Ssematiko said.

The district director of health services, Dr. Fred Lwasampijja, said the district would provide medicine and pay salaries to the workers.

“We would like to have a health unit like this one in every parish, but we do not have the capacity. We are so grateful for what Dr. Ssematiko has done and we shall start from here to provide the necessary support,” he said.
