AFTER a month of tough training drills Sevens Rugby World Cup-bound Lady Cranes have been given a breather this weekend —to probably enjoy Valentine with their loved ones. The World Cup kicks off on March 5 in Dubai.

Convinced that the team’s fitness levels have hit the peak, coaches David Mutaka and Robert Seguya have given the squad a weekend out of residential training.

“We won’t be in residential camp in Mukono this weekend. They need a break now. The ladies have worked so hard, we are now slowing down,” Mutaka explained.

While in a residential camp the team normally starts the day with roadwork at 6am before the first training session at 10am and wind up the day with an evening session.

A team of 14 players was named on Tuesday and will enter a one-week residential training in Entebbe February 21. The Ugandans who are in pool D with New Zealand, South Africa and Italy depart for Dubai on March 1. Uganda will face New Zealand in its first game on March 5.
