TAKING a smoothie is a wonderful way to start a hot day. A smoothie is a blended, chilled, sweet beverage made from fresh fruits.
A smoothie is rich in vitamins A, B and C and is recommended for those on a diet. The good news is the fruit season is on, so you use whatever fruit you fancy.
To boost the fibre content, add a sprinkle of oat or wheat bran. Alternatively, to enhance the nutritional value and colour include add-ins like full cream milk or yoghurt.
INGREDIENTS (4 servings)
Pineapple — 500g
3 medium ripe mangoes
Watermelon — 300g
2 sweet bananas
Yoghurt — 250ml
METHOD
Peel and chop the fruits into small pieces
Put the chopped pieces in a blender, do not add water
Blend to a fine pulp
Do not add sugar because the fruits contain natural sugars
Add yoghurt to change colour and add nutrients or 100ml of full cream milk
Do not sieve
Refrigerate
Serve chilled
