RARELY do convicts ask to be sent to prisons of their choice. But, a 54-year-old man whom the Luweero High Court sentenced to 15 years in jail for defiling an eight-year-old girl, amused court when he said he was only willing to serve his sentence in Luzira Prison, writes Frederick Kiwanuka.
Twahib Kasozi, a resident of Sembwa village in Nakaseke District, on Friday told Justice Benjamin Kabiito that he did not want to return to Nakasongola Prison where he had been on remand because the prisoners there did a lot of hard work.
“Your lordship, I pray that I serve my sentence in Luzira because I have been working hard at Nakasongola where I have been on remand,†he said.
He was, however, sent back to Nakasongola Prison. Prosecution led by the Luweero Resident Attorney, Bernard Senteza, had told court that the accused, while at Sembwa village on September 11, 2006 defiled the girl.
The offence carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Kasozi had also begged for leniency, saying he had 27 children and three wives to look after and that he had been on remand for two years.
