DANIEL Mihigo and Herbert Ebayo have broken into Africa’s 15 top-ranked badminton singles players.

The two fourteen-year-olds rise in the continental rankings, follow their starring performance in the Roofings International last month in Kampala.

The highest climber is Daniel Muhigo who downed the Roofings tournament seed two Clemens Smola (Austria) 24-22 21-18 in the third round of the event. His efforts have been rewarded by his getting into the continent’s top 15. He now has 453 points and is ranked 13th in the continent and 453rd in the world.

“The ranking is good for our players. It will encourage them to work harder,” said Simon Mugabi after getting to know the results.

Uganda’s Edwin Ekiring is still the top ranked African player with 7326 points followed by Zambia’s Elly Mambwe (3954) and Algerian Nabil Lasmari (2100)
