New judges salaries approved

PARLIAMENT on Tuesday approved new salaries, allowances and benefits for judges, although the increment took effect on July 1, 2006.

PARLIAMENT on Tuesday approved new salaries, allowances and benefits for judges, although the increment took effect on July 1, 2006.

The Chief Justice’s package is now sh5,859,000 as monthly salary, sh3.6m medical allowance per year, a furnished house, a chauffer driven car, security, first class travel and sh3m for an official residence.

The deputy Chief Justice now gets sh5,330,200 as salary, sh2.5m housing allowance, sh3m medical allowance, a chauffer-driven vehicle, security and travel by first class.

Other justices are entitled to a chauffer-driven car, security and travel by club class. They are: The Principal Judge sh5,077,800 salary sh2.3m housing, sh3m medical.

Justices of the Supreme Court will get sh4,910,400 salary, sh2.2m housing and sh2.4m medical. Court of Appeal Justices get sh4,743,000 salary, sh2.1m housing, sh2.4m medical. Justices of the High Court sh4,575,000 salary, sh2m housing and sh2.4m medical.
