DANIEL Muhigo and Herbert Ebayo will battle for honours when the Taibah Schools Badminton Open takes shape tomorrow at Lugogo.

Action had been suspended from the indoor stadium to pave way for renovations, but the delay in starting the work has played in the badminton association’s favour.

Muhigo and Ebayo, who have just broken into the African top 15 ranks, are expected among the major attraction in the event, which was launched on Tuesday at Taibah High School. The school head Edward Lukwago announced a sh4m worth of sponsorship for logistics and trophies.

“It’s a tournament that has gone a long way in tapping and nurturing talent. For the last eight years, it has produced budding stars and we are proud of the sponsors,” said Uganda Badminton Association chief operations officer Simon Mugabi at the launch.

The tournament will see competition in the U-10, U-13, U-15 and U-18 categories.
