SEASONED soccer administrator Godfrey Kwizera will challenge Lawrence Mulindwa for the Federation of Uganda Football Associations presidency in December.
“The time has come for change, and I think I have the necessary qualities to replace Mulindwa,†said a confident Kwizera (right).
Kwizera said he was surprised by the level of support he has been promised by the electorate.
Elections for the local soccer body’s delegates will be held two months before the presidential polls in August. Kwizera, a former FUFA vice president is the second person, after Alex Kasujja, to openly declare his intentions to take on Mulindwa.
The former vice president under John Ssemanobe and Dennis Obua said Mulindwa had failed to deliver on his promise of taking Uganda to the Nations Cup finals.
“Well, Mulindwa tried but you see in football there comes a time when experience is the key. With 20 years in top level management, I believe I have what it takes to lift Uganda to the next level,†noted Kabale delegate Kwizera.
“Lack of youth structures and well trained coaches at the grassroots, is partly the reason we have failed to progress to the next level,†observed Kwizera.
Kwizera also says Mulindwa has fared badly in the ‘division of labour’ principle. “The federation is currently a one man’s show,†he observed, adding that he will if elected also revive women’s football from what he called its death bed.
He also intends to involve retired footballers and administrators at all levels of the game. “These gentlemen have a crucial role to play. You just can’t ignore them like is currently the case.â€
He has also been chairman of the National Football League.
