Park Yard traders learnt nothing from the tragedy

There is no doubt the fire which gutted the Park Yard Market recently would have been prevented if the traders and the city authorities had taken care to decongest the market.

There is no doubt the fire which gutted the Park Yard Market recently would have been prevented if the traders and the city authorities had taken care to decongest the market.

However, it is so disappointing that two weeks after the huge loss, the traders have gone ahead to construct the same old stalls made of timber, polythene paper, sacks and card boards, making the market more congested as it was before. If this had happened in my home area, my old parents, would have said: Akati ku kakuteera omuriisho kagira kati hweza, meaning, when a stick pricks you in the eye, it awakes your sense of seeing. Human nature is always bound to learn from its mistakes. Did the traders learn anything from the tragedy? And if not, why is the Government so silent to the extent of not seeing that the new market is completely out of order and could lead to another fire in the future? Remember, it is not a mistake to make mistakes, but rather a mistake to repeat the same mistake. Please, execute your powers.
