THE First Lady, Janet Museveni, has hailed the Uganda Christian University Mukono for imparting Christian values in their students.

She was on Friday officiating at a dinner to raise funds for the construction of a new library.

The First Lady pledged sh2m towards the project and delivered sh10m in cash as a contribution from President Yoweri Museveni.

Mrs. Museveni observed that for years, Uganda has distinguished itself as a country with high quality education.

The library will be built in honour of the late Ham Mukasa, a Buganda county chief who gave land to the church to establish the then Bishop Tucker Theological College.

The university was established in 1997 to replace the college.
Present at the dinner at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala were chief justice Benjamin Odoki and the principal judge, James Ogoola.

Retired archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo, university alumni, students and parents also attended.
About sh100m was raised in cash and pledges, while a bible autographed by President Museveni and his wife, was auctioned at sh2.5m.

The vice chancellor, Prof. Stephen Noll, said the construction would cost over sh10b ($5.5m).
“Our proposition is that a great university deserves a great library,” Noll said.
