OVER the past few years, Rachel Kiwanuka has barely been out of the limelight; hosting Jam Agenda on WBS TV, her radio show on Hot 100 FM and emceeing at various social events.

Following in the footsteps of her singer mum, Halima Namakula, Kiwanuka began singing in 2005. But none of her recordings, including I Love The Way (featuring Karyn), Every Time, which enjoyed ample airplay on MTV Base, and Unaniumiza (featuring Moze Radio and Weasel) has helped her musical career really take off.

But Kiwanuka is not about to give up her pursuit for musical excellence. Her latest recording finds her moving away from her usual R&B sung in English, to a more locally-acceptable Afropop style.

On Kamuwaane, Kiwanuka sings in Luganda for the first time. With her rudimentary Luganda, this one sounds hardly original, but it shows Kiwanuka’s keenness to capture a wider local audience. The song tells the story of a girl who cannot hide her excitement about her new love.

Produced by Vents from No End Studios, Kamuwaane is a brilliant effort with a bouncy keyboard riff and a high-pitched chorus that could see the singer girl become a bonafide star in a few months.

The song is not yet officially released, but with a killer hook, Kamuwaane is a hit in the making!

In her musical career that spans about four years, Kamuwaane is so far Kiwanuka’s most exciting and adventurous musical moments.
