Dear Doctor,
I run for exercise. When I do roadwork after eating, I get discomfort in the stomach. Drinking water does not affect me though. Why does this occur? What should I do?
Kassim,

Dear Kassim,
AFTER eating, blood is diverted to your stomach to digest the food. This is partly why one feels sleepy after a heavy meal. If you do roadwork soon after eating, your body has to exercise and digest at the same time. The food in your stomach also changes your balance since the abdomen feels heavy and uncomfortable.

Drinking water does not affect you because water is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. So, it will hardly affect your running if taken in moderate amounts. Please, take a light meal within a few hours of exercise. After digestion, you will feel more comfortable.
