Top Catholic priests meet over Musaala gay allegations

THE Catholic Archbishop of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, yesterday held a closed-door meeting with Fr. Anthony Aliddeki Musaala, following reports that Musaala is a homosexual.

THE Catholic Archbishop of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, yesterday held a closed-door meeting with Fr. Anthony Aliddeki Musaala, following reports that Musaala is a homosexual.
The meeting was held at Kampala archdiocese headquarters in Lubaga and was attended by a number of clerics.
The archdiocese chancellor, Fr. Joseph Kazibwe Ntuwa, confirmed the meeting, saying a formal statement would be released later.
By press time, however, the outcome of the deliberations had not been known.
Asked whether he would continue giving guidance and counselling to homosexuals, Musaala told The New Vision hours before the meeting: “I am just going to Lubaga to meet my superiors, the archbishop and other authorities over the issue.â€
Musaala, the charismatic preacher and gospel music award winner, was on Tuesday accused by Paul Kagaba, a self-confessed homosexual, of promoting the illegal practice.
Kagaba alleged that the priest had often held parties for gays at his residence in Gayaza near Kampala.
The priest has since dismissed the accusations.
Musaala said he had been offering spiritual guidance to the gays, lesbians, prostitutes and married couples since 1999.
He argued that his acts were in conformity with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
