URA went on top of the Uganda Super League table for the first time this season, after beating Maji 3-0 in yesterday’s action at Nakivubo stadium. Police also beat Kakira by the same margin at Namboole.

URA were put on a recovery path by Henry Kisekka with a goal after just eight minutes before Sam Mubiru made it 2-0 at the break.

Coach Moses Basena, who was aware that a win will see URA become the fourth club to top the table this season after Simba, SC Villa and KCC, decided to recall the services of Alex Isabirye for Kisekka. Isabirye returned Basena’s favour with an 87th minute strike to seal the win.

Police also kept the chase for a table placing with a Bruno Olobo brace and Jimmy Kulaba’s strike against winless Kakira.

URA’s leap will awaken former Champions SC Villa who take on stubborn Maji at Namboole today.

Maji claimed maximum points from KCC, and Villa –– who are now five points off the pace but with two games in hand will be fired up for their first major title in four years.

The Jogoos, who last won a major title in 2004 are in hunt for a double having reached the Kakungulu Cup finals. Sam Ssimbwa’s Simba also have a tricky tie against Express at Wankulukuku today.
