FORMER Commonwealth featherweight champion Jackson “Action” Asiku will return to the ring April 26 against Australian Gairy St Clair at the Challenge stadium in Perth, Australia.

The fight, the first for the Australian-based Ugandan in 2009, comes early in the season for the fighter who had some hitches last year.

Last year Asiku landed a world title shot against WBA featherweight champion Chris John. However the fight fell through after the fighters refused to agree on the purse. He also withdrew from a fight with then IBO featherweight champion Thomas “The Rock” Mashaba in South Africa.

During the year, Asiku signed a two-year contract with Perth boxing promoter Craig Christian, who promised to land him a world title fight but Asiku fell out with Christian almost immediately.

In 2007 he fell out with his then agent Danny Lutaaya, together with Roy Hilder and Shakespeare Promotions after the agents failed to fulfil their share of the bargain of getting him a world title shot. He goes into the fight with a (23-3-0, 12 KOS) record.
