The Rapid Response Unit (RRU) have arrested over 30 suspected criminals from various districts.

The Police unit also recovered eight guns and 130 bullets.

Addressing journalists at the RRU offices in Kireka on Friday, police publicist Judith Nabakooba said most of the thugs involved in murders and robberies were private security guards.

She said the increasing cases involving the guards had raised questions over the credibility of most private firms in providing security to their clients.

The suspects, including Pastor Silasi Kigambo of the Voice of Holy Fire Church, Mbarara and two women, Sarah Naigaga and Mwajuma Ganyoka, face charges of robbery and illegal possession of guns and narcotics. They will appear before the general court martial, Nabakooba said.

The suspects were picked from Kampala, Wakiso, Kiboga, Jinja, Kasese, Kisoro, Kabale and Mbale districts. Those arrested in Kampala included Huzairu Bambazeeki, Sulaiman Walakira, Steven Acentum, a Group 4 guard and Thomas Okech of Alert Security Guards.

Others were Peter Ssekulima, Pte. Rajab Amanya, Juma Katongole, Sudaisi Mbulo, Henry Wambi, Siraje Mulabi, Muhamood Byakatonda, Isma Matovu and Swaibu Wangusi.

In Wakiso, a pistol was recovered from Fortunate Asiimwe with 20 bullets, while Ronald Kakeeto Luswata and Badru Bukenya were nabbed buying a rifle at sh500,000.

From Kiboga, David Babyenda, a Saracen guard, was arrested over robbing a fuel supplier of sh5m.

In Jinja, Patrick Obila of Protection Security Services was arrested over robbing Tim Machesney, a Briton, of house property.
