The Baruuli have advocated for the regional tier system of governance.

This was disclosed by the Ssebaruuli, Mwogezi Butamanya, upon his return from the US on Sunday. The two week-visit was sponsored by State House.

Addressing journalists through his aide, the former security minister, Muruuli Mukasa who accompanied him on the trip, Butamanya said his people did not understand the federal system of governance that was being demanded by the Buganda Kingdom.

“The Baruuli/Banyala have problems with the federo being requested for by Buganda. We have to understand how it will work and what the relationship between the federo seat at Mengo and Nakasongola will be.”

He added that Buruuli was not in conflict with the Buganda Kingdom.

“Culture is to be enjoyed and respected. There is no conflict between Mengo and Nakasongola because the Constitution says we have a right to enjoy our culture,” Butamanya said.

He said they visited Dallas city at the invitation of the World Wide Initiative, headed by Derby Ransen, where they discussed prospects for developing Buruuli/ Bunyala.

Butamanya added that their host linked them to officials in several utility companies who would travel to Uganda in June to assess development prospects.

“The king was commended for his developmental spirit and they (utility companies) promised to develop sectors like agriculture, health, water, poverty alleviation, housing, fishing and animal husbandry,” Mukasa said.

He added that they also planned to promote Lunyala through printing books on the language and translating the Bible into Lunyala. They would also start a radio and TV station in Lunyala.

Mukasa thanked the Government for sponsoring the visit.

The Ssabaruuli was welcomed by his three wives, as well as his security minister GW Ssemujju, finance minister John Kitaka, information minister Muhammad Muruuli and trade minister Ssebwoto Gaweera.
