ALUMINIUM giants, the Shumuk Group, through its subsidiary company, the Springs International Hotels, has bought over Hotel Diplomate Hotel in Muyenga, Kampala.

The hotel was formerly owned by Bonney Katatumba, a renown city businessman with a string of investments across the country.

Another city tycoon, Shukla Mukesh, the Shumuk Group chief executive officer, will now oversee the management of the hotel, sources disclosed.

“The Shumuk Group concluded the deal in November 2008 and have planned to have a fresh $2m investment in the hotel,” said the source.

The hotel will be owned and managed through its subsidiary firm; Springs International Hotel.
The group is planning major renovations from May.

“This will be done in conjunction with Radisson, an international hotel chain with more than 4,000 hotels world-wide,” the source added.

The source disclosed that the new takeover would, however, be a joint-venture between the Shumuk Group and the South African-based Radisson Group of Hotels.
Radisson runs all Diplomate Hotel chains across the globe.

With the new deal, the Shumuk Group will have expanded its scope of investments into hotel business.

The previously 20-room hotel, would be transformed into a 100-bedroom international hotel.
This will make it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Uganda. Mukesh could neither confirm nor deny the development.

. Boney Katatumba could not also be reached for a comment.
Hotel Diplomate has over a decade been rated as one the hotels that enjoys the most spectacular views in Kampala due to its location on Muyenga Hill.
