BEFORE the start of the season, it was said KCC FC were a one-man team. That without Brian Umony, the 2008 league joint top scorer, the champions are as ordinary and as good as their next result.

It was even suggested that when the 22-year-old freezes, the whole team does.

Umony froze in the goalless draw against Youfra, and so did KCC. He was nowhere to be seen as Sudan’s El Merreikh pipped KCC last Friday.

KCC fans will have reason to worry as it looks the Lugogo boys’ fortunes are not about to change as coach George Nsimbe has decided to rest the fatigued and ill striker.

Umony has been involved in 3,150 minutes of football in 35 consecutive games this season for club, country and his university.

“We will try to prove that we are not a one-man team,” Nsimbe assured fans ahead of his club’s clash with Police at Nakivubo today.

“He needs the break. He has been battling malaria and it was only made worse by the fatigue he has accumulated playing in almost every match for us,” Nsimbe stated.

The striker has started each of KCC’s games this season, save for the first four league games.
