Otafiire’s suit
- Tourism, trade and industry minister Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire is a man with a creative mind. On Friday, he turned up before the parliamentary committee on tourism dressed in a smart dark blue Kawunda suit with his name imprinted on the pocket. He had gone to the committee to present his ministry’s budget estimates for the financial year 2009/2010. Some of the MPs could not hide their excitement. They wondered whether he had started his own designing garment industry. Way to go Mr Minister!

Easter delicacy
- When the retired Bishop of Namirembe, Samuel Ssekadde, recounted the olden days before he had been elevated to the high office of Bishop of Namirembe recently, the congregation laughed heartily. During his sermon at the golden wedding anniversary of retired Bishop of Central Buganda, the Rt Rev. Dr. George Sinabulya, in Mityana, Ssekadde recalled how he bought cow hooves for Easter and took them home to his wife Allen. He had not received his allowances yet he was hosting 18 people who had fled from the Luwero Triangle. “She cooked them and I ate them sitting cross-legged. Can you buy such meat for the women of today?” he asked amid roaring laughter.

Court actor
- Laughter filled the High Court last week when a suspect was asked whether he had anything to say. Senoga Sentumbwe was convicted of kidnapping a child with intent to murder him. Asked by High Court judge, Elidad Mwangusya whether Sentumbwe had anything to say before he was sentenced, Sentumbwe started reciting prayers instead of pleading with the judge about his sentence.
This amused the people in court but the judge was not and ordered him to stop acting in court, causing more laughter.

Plan A, B, C
- When the guest of honour, Vice-President Gilbert Bukenya failed to turn up at the launch of the ‘Integrated Community Based Initiative’ in Mubende last week, Sheema North MP Elioda Tumwesigye consoled the people that he had ‘Plan B’. When the Uganda AIDS Commission boss, Dr. Kihumuro Apuuli, appeared, the MP informed them that he got a new chief guest. No sooner had Kihumuro started speaking than state minister for primary health care, James Kakooza appeared. “Now we have Plan C,” Tumwesigye said, to the amusement of the people. Kakooza officiated.
