SEVENTEEN-year-old Sera Nampijja is the embodiment of a new generation of young artistes who are out to give established artistes a run for their money.

The fresher from St. Jude’s Catholic Church choir in Wandegeya recently went into secular music and caused a stir in the industry.

Her first collaboration with Kid Fox, Delivered, has paid off, getting massive airplay on all local FM radio stations and also stepping in at No.5 on the Channel 5 East Africa TV countdown.

Meanwhile, local rap star, Navio and dancehall stars, Peter Miles, Bebe Cool and Kenya’s Red San have all enlisted to feature on her new album launch, Bad Boy.

She has also been booked to pen lyrics for Angela Katatumba.

Nampijja’s voice is cool and suave. She can flow with any vibe — reggae, dancehall beats and slow pop. She sings in Luganda, Swahili and English.

In Delivered, she contracts the latter’s hard-core dancehall style with a smooth breezy voice.

The video also features luscious dance antics and animations of a mega bass speaker that suit the song’s contemporary dancehall style.

Delivered dwells on household quarrels, where a woman who thinks her man is cheating on her threatens to leave.

Nampijja has also done Bad Boy, another rollicking and groovy tune featuring Klear Kut’s Navio.

She says she wants to emulate her idols like Tanya Stevens and Beyonce.
