When I arrived, I thought I would wait for her. However the waitress took me to a table where a she was seated. I sat and ignored her, thinking she was also waiting for someone else. But she said ‘Hi’ to which I responded, assuming she was just being friendly.
She went ahead and asked how I ended up in Choma and I explained to her about my mission. She laughed and I presumed she was my date. Indeed when I asked her what she was doing there, she admitted being my date.
I became nervous and asked for a Tusker in order to get courage. She asked why I was not asking for dinner but I told her I was not ready for it yet. She told me she was in love with a man but she wanted to leave him. I cautioned her not to do it on the basis of our date because she does not know me well.
What impressed you about her?
She has a good sense of humour. She was also very friendly, honest and intelligent. If we had time, we could have chatted till morning.
Anything you felt uncomfortable with?
I didn’t see any, except that she was not comfortable with me smoking. She even asked if I could quit smoking, which I am also willing to do.
Have you called her yet?
Yes I have and we agreed to keep in touch. I plan to take our friendship to a higher level.

Jokes
I was there first and as I sat, reading a magazine and sipping my drink, he arrived. After he took a seat, I welcomed him, although I was not sure he was my date. I introduced myself and he did likewise.
At first he looked shy and I too felt scared of talking to a stranger. He told me his background and what he does. As time went on, however, I began feeling at ease.
He said he had a girlfriend who left for studies abroad. When I told him that I have a boyfriend, I saw his smile disappear. He then advised me to stick to my boyfriend and avoid cheating on him. I also told him to wait for his girlfriend.
When we left Choma, he asked for my mobile number and I gave him. As we parted, I hugged him and wished him a good night.
What were his strong points?
He is social and talkative; he engaged till the end of the date.
Somewhere he disappointed?
He wears dreadlocks and also smokes, yet I am not a fan of such guys.
Should he call you for an outing?
I am not sure if I will go because I am not comfortable being in the company someone wearing dreadlocked.
