COPA football team set for Nairobi tour

NILE High School star Yusuf Bagoth will lead the COPA Coca-Cola select football squad for a tour in Nairobi this weekend.

Bagoth is in a squad of 15 players training in Fort Portal for the trip.

Bagoth led Arua-based Nile team to the quarterfinal of the annual post-primary schools competition that ended over the weekend.

The player’s brilliant diaplay earned him the Most Valuable Player award at the event.

Bagoth and his colleagues were called to the Nairobi-bound team by the technical committee comprising coaches Mike Mutebi, Kaddu Mukasa, Mathew Lucha, Patrick Egwel and Abbas Sendyowa.

The players impressed the committee by their performance even in the tightest of situations in Fort-Portal.

Others in the team that departs for Nairobi tomorrow are: Henry Waligo of (Rubaga SSS), Godfrey Wanyama (St. John Busia), Geoffrey Ochan (Bishop Angelo College), Sunday Katumwa (Rubaga), Farouk Andama (Aringa SS), Isaac Owor (Kibuli SS) and Vincent Galiwango (Rubaga).

Also travelling is Henry Moi (Monsignor Bala College), Harry Bogere (Kibuli SS), Arafat Kinanywa (Yale High), Siraje Sentamu (St. Mary's SS Kitende), Noah Asiku (Aringa SS), Kadi Nantukunda (Kihihi SS) and Moses Tela (Daystar College).

According to the team manager Chris Mugisa, the Ugandans will play a Kenyan side at Nairobi City Stadium on Saturday.

The squad is accompanied by Mutebi as head coach, with Kaddu as his assistant.

Twelve players out of the 15 will also travel for the Confederation Cup that will be held for the first time in South Africa next month.
