KENYAN and Tanzanian junior football teams that were set to compete in the East Africa Kids Cup in Kampala have withdrawn due to the disagreement between the countries over Migingo Island, reports Swalley Kenyi.

The annual event for U-14, U-12, U-10 and U-8 teams which was set for later this month had attracted Ligi Ndogo, Aga Khan, Ross of Shaun and Little Rocks from Nairobi and Bukoba Youth Club and Tanzania Youth FC.

But the organisers Uganda Juniors League UJL received communication of the withdrawal yesterday citing arguments over the status of the island between Kampala and Nairobi.

“Only few kids from Kenya turned up. Officials said they feared the souring relationship over Migingo,” UJL’s Charles Ssendagire said yesterday.

UJL planned to use the event to gauge their U-10 to U-14 teams for the England tour in July.
