THERE are no plans to have more bus terminals in the city, city authorities have said.

Simon Muhumuza, the Kampala City Council (KCC) spokesman, however, said the city authorities, local government and the roads authority were working on long-term plans for the Greater Kampala Rapid Bus Transport system.

Under this system there would be sections for city buses as well as stages for ticketing.

Muhumuza said this would take time to set up.

He also said there was no need for city buses to have a terminal, saying they should rather make circuits around the city.

He was responding to queries on whether KCC intended to set up places for city buses to park after the operators complained of limited parking space at Constitutional Square on Monday.

“Why should the buses need parking space to turn around here in the city centre? They should just drive through,” he said.

There are three firms operating on city routes; Pioneer, City Bus and Dream Shuttle.

All of them park at the Constitutional Square to wait for passengers.
