WHEN Mozey Radio and Weasel released Nakudata at the beginning of 2008, they were only known as members of Jose Chameleone’s Leone Island Crew, with just one hit song to their name.

Fast forward to 2009 and the duo that now make up the Goodlyfe Crew have the power to get a mammoth crowd singing along to more than 10 songs.

During the launch of their second album, Nyambura, at Hotel Africana on Friday night, Radio and Weasel proved that they now have what it takes to rival the best in the land.

These boys should be the most popular local acts if the crowd that turned up for their show is anything to go by. This must have been the biggest crowds to attend a show here.

Not even the rumours of the duo’s arrest earlier in the day could stop fans from turning up in droves. Hotel Africana’s People’s Space was packed to capacity, thanks in part to Club beer and MTN, the main sponsors of the event.

Things got off to a rousing start with spine-tingling performances from Juliana Kanyomozi, Ronald Mayinja, Aziz Azion, Ragga Dee and Peter Miles.

But there was no doubting the admiration the audience had for Radio and Weasel, who took to the stage at 10:27pm.

They belted out Nakudata, most people’s introduction to their music. From then onwards, they held the audience spellbound with a string of their hits—from the shuddering strings of Ngamba to the moody Nyambura, the title of their latest album.

All the performances were done to a live band. Joining the boys on stage were all-girl R&B group, Blu83, who performed the popular Where You Are. Viboyo joined them for Nyumbani, while Lugaflow wordsmith GNL Zamba, was handed a chance to roast the audience on Mr. Right.

Unfortunately, London-based Myco Chris could not join them on Zino Enaku. But no one seemed to miss Myco, as Mozey did his verses perfectly well.

Performances hit fever pitch when the Goodlyfe Crew went into Bread And Butter, their latest club banger which is currently on every local music fan’s lips.Predictably, Bread And Butter capped a memorable musical night.

For anyone with an ounce for musical taste, this was a show worth every penny. And for Radio and Weasel, welcome to the big stage, boys.
