FOR the time we have embraced the now famous flash disks as versatile storage gadgets, little did we think of anything better.

Then came the Meccer mini hard disk. It is barely 11 grams, looks like an ordinary flash disk, but brings along extra bandwidth for multimedia and storage applications.

It uses MDH-2 series Universal Serial Bus 2.0 ports on a computer to access your stored data when need be.

In addition to being fully compatible plug and play with operating systems of Windows ME, 2000, XP, the user of the mini hard disk also has at his or her disposal, the option to protect his removable drive with a private password from unauthorised access.

Sachin Barot of Compulink on Kampala Road recommends the Meccer Mini hard disk for all business and personal works because of its advantage of having an in-built anti-virus chip and the ability to partition the drive into two drives.

“Removable storage devices are prone to destruction by malicious files since they are moved from one computer to another. This puts very important data at risk of being lost.

This new removes that threat associated with flash disks,” says Barot.
This bus-powered mini hard disk has got a maximum data transfer of up to 480MB/sec, writes at 8MB/sec and reads at over 10 MB/sec, with performance varying on different platforms.

Meccer mini hard disks come in a range of capacities from 128MB up to 8GB in addition to a USB extension and a neck string.

The prices range from sh90,000 to sh420,000, depending on the storage capacity. They are available at Computer Vision on Nkurumah Road, Second Hand at Lugogo Show Ground and Compulink on Kampala Road.
