BABAMBA Budhagali, the chief oracle of Bujagali Falls in Jinja, describes the recent purported relocation of the spirits by a group of people from the Kyabazinga institution as a move to seek a fortune from the contractors of the proposed Bujagali dam,
Salini Constructors, an Italian- based company, staked sh25m to cater for expenses incurred in the purported relocation of the spirits from the site.

Nabamba, who claims he was not around during the purported relocation exercise, says the unscrupulous people from the Kyabazinga institution, and herbalists who were involved in the exercise, should be arrested and charged with criminal counts including impersonation.

Nabamba says disaster would happen should construction of the dam begin before things are put right.

He said the spirits had vowed to unleash their anger on the perpetrators, the constructors as well as their subjects.

“The scenario claimed to be the ritual for relocating the spirits from the site (Bujagali falls) to Namizi is a clear manifestation of total deception, which is bound to cause a series of calamities during the construction,” Budhagali says.

“No body has ever relocated these spirits from Budhagali shrines. The whole nation should know that the seat of the shrines is still at Bujagali falls site.

The spirits are still at the site, patiently waiting for any attempts of provocation before they could unleash their anger,” says Nabamba.

He warns the contractors not to take the matter lightly because the world of spirits could be equated to a political race where any candidate could emerge the victor regardless of whether he or she rigged or not.

“I am the thirty ninth Budhagali oracle, and it was never my wish to become the Budhagali oracle shortly after the demise of my immediate predecessor, but the spirits choose me and dragged me here unceremoniously, and until my death, nobody can claim to perform the duties of Budhagali,” Nabamba adds.

He says, besides the spirits, there are 38 graves of the earlier Budhagali oracles at proposed site.

“Like my 38 predecessors, when I die, I will be buried here,” he said.
“How could a small group of people confuse the entire world that relocating the Budhagali shrine is as cheap as dragging a goat from one grazing site to another.

The contractors should get back to their senses and follow the procedural rules lest they face the wrath of the spirits,” Budhagali explains.

He insists that Nfuudu (who performed the rituals of the purported relocation of shrines on August 21, 2007, has never been and will never be the oracle of Budhagali, and in the circumstances the entire exercise was not only a sham, but also an illegality that is bound to cause disaster,” he says
