HERE is the once in a lifetime chance for anyone who has always harboured dreams of living next door to Man U Defender, Rio Ferdinand. A local company is building 114 luxury apartments in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb and believe it or not, the heartthrob Rio has been the first to book into the estate.
The good news is that, anyone can book some of the new houses just by paying a measly sh10m at the Stanbic Bank. Do not worry about the rest of the money for you can pay it anytime within the coming 20 years, all the while, when you are living in this best-planned neighbourhood. The price after 20 years, ranges between $129,000 and $299,000.
According to Jacqueline Nyaga, the operations manager of Kensington Real Estate, the new villas will all be self-contained with 2-5 bedrooms, ultramodern kitchens and bathrooms, living rooms, two car park spaces each, all done to the most superior and stylish domestic designs in the world.
What else can you expect from a project that has been designed by Symbion, the firm that laid the plans for Serena Hotel?
Besides, the 114 villas will be set on a vast 15-acre expanse of luxurious well-kempt flower gardens and lawns. There will also be a shopping boulevard (not mall, please), a restaurant, a kids’ amusement park, a tennis court, a nursery school, a pharmacy, a swimming pool, and a football pitch. It is perhaps at the latter that neighbours will come in for some tick-tack with Rio.
Asked whether this Rio Ferdinand hype is all a gimmick, Nyaga seemed aghast. “No, how? When this footballer came to Kampala recently, he looked around for a house that he could buy. His promoters recommended Sunset View Apartment, (also owned by Kensington) in Kololo. He refused to take up any of the nice houses here saying he preferred a quieter place that is away from the city crowds but still stylish and easily accessible by road. We led him over to Ntinda, showed him our plans and artistic impressions and he was floored.â€
It is now only a couple of weeks since the ground was broken and work on the luxury apartments started in full swing. A few of the houses will be up and ready for occupancy by January 2008. Then the rest of the villas, boulevards, shops etcetera will be ready by 2009.
Kensington Real Estate owns a wide variety of such apartments all over London, Dubai and Ghana. It also owns other luxurious apartments in Kampala including the Signature Homes alongside Lugogo Bypass.
Right now, Kampala is very much sought after by international urban housing developers and besides Kensington, there are several other luxury villas that have been set up in Munyonyo and Kololo. We can only embrace the better living standard.
