BAD roads are hampering the delivery of relief items to the flood victims in Teso.

“The districts are increasingly becoming inaccessible. Some sub-counties are cut-off due to the submerged roads so relief cannot be delivered to the victims on time,” said Musa Ecweru, the state minister for disaster preparedness.

The sub-counties of Magoro and Ngariam have been cut-off due to flooded roads, according to the minister.

He noted that heavy relief trucks had not been able to cross a distance of about two kilometres at Oriao swamp in Magoro sub-county, Katakwi district. The trailer, loaded with food from the ministry could not cross to Magoro.

The 180 bags of maize flour and 80 bags of beans sent by the Prime Minister’s office to Ngariam, however, remained undelivered. The food was kept in Katakwi until the roads have been improved under the planned emergency road repairs.

Some of the food was offloaded and transported to some parts of the camp on a tractor and on small trucks.
