Nominations split the housemates

THE housemates’ camouflage is wearing out — no more pretending to love each other if they do not. After the eviction bug on Sunday tackled Meryl, one of those earlier deemed to be invincible; each of the nine housemates left in the house now knows it could happen to them.

And the nominations on Monday further rubbed it in after two other deemed-invincible lovebirds, Zambia’s Maxwell and Lerato, the South African, got on the list of possible evictees — Lerato should thank God she was able to save herself.

Now what makes the DStv reality show more interesting is that Lerato, Maxwell, Bertha and Kwaku took the nomination results so personal that they have decided to hate whoever they suspect might have nominated them. They think the traitors are Ofunneka, Maureen, Code, Tatiana and Richard, which divides the house into two factions.

The Lerato-led faction thinks itself impregnable, and has taken to talking ill about the Maureen-led one. They agreed on Tuesday night to overly celebrate to the downfall of one of their enemies, Tanzania’s Richard, if he is evicted on Sunday as they wish.

In fact they are banking on having a house head come from amongst them every week as a way of cushioning themselves from nomination, a suggestion that came from Bertha.

But like Maureen said in her conversation with Ofunneka, do they think they are competing against dead bodies that do not have brains? Maureen nearly became house head last week when she came second in a memorisation test that made Lerato house head. She beat Bertha, who came third — no wonder the two know each other as threats.

So who said Maureen was daft after all? Her time to become house head just has not come yet. But we can keep our fingers crossed. Interestingly, Kwaku, the Ghanaian, should not be bothered that Lerato and Maxwell were nominated because Maxwell as house head last week could not even use his powers to save Kwaku’s love, Meryl.

But since Lerato seems to wield more influence and power in the house, Kwaku is sucking up to her sentiments and being on her side by default — so much for dependent minds. We can disillusion this so-called Lerato-led faction by flushing down the toilet, yet another of their own — Maxwell. Vote now to evict Maxwell. Type Vote Maxwell, send to 15626 (MTN and Celtel), and 5626 (utl), or vote online at www.mnetafrica.co.za/bigbrother.

Meanwhile, the theme of the week, Cirque d’Afrique is on. Housemates have since Tuesday been rehearsing to stage a circus production due tonight when they perform for Big Brother.

And while the Maureen’s faction rehearsed on Tuesday night for the production, Lerato’s was gossiping away in the Jacuzzi, planning ways to overthrow their adversary. Do not be surprised if the Leratos’ production turns out a shoddy one for lack of preparation.

Richiana (Tatiana and Richard) are to stage Salsa as part of the lovebirds’ circus production, while Maude (Maureen and Code) will present a contemporary dance. Watch out for flecks of love in the air. Meanwhile coinages; Richiana and Maude were made up by fans who enjoy watching the two couples go about their seem-to-be love affairs.

The Richiana couple seems to have found real love. Tatiana asked Richard whether he loves her. Then he answered with a fumbling ‘yes’, and vice versa. Just for the record, Tatiana is engaged back home in Angola. Richard has been married just four months to his Canadian wife. Tatiana, though, confided to Big Brother that whatever happens in the house, she keeps in mind that it is just a game.

I do not know about Richard, who has taken to buying flowers for the romantic, whom Kwaku also confided to Big Brother that she is a charmer, who charms you into not nominating her. It is called strategy.

Speaking of strategists, Bertha, who seemed to be on a fast-tracked move to win Kwaku over, has slowed down. Apparently, Kwaku has not yet gotten over Meryl completely much as he might want us to believe Meryl was sometimes too much for him.

Bertha was worked up on Monday when Kwaku was keeping his distance. But the schemer in her still had to pull off something. She promised to be there for Kwaku as a friend and he appreciated her concern, much to her delight. Since Kwaku promised to look for Meryl after the game, yet he admits he likes Bertha, I see him incorporating the two in his ‘farm’.
