MEDICAL doctors Ali Sabila and Alex Muhabi are among 29 referees called for this year’s cooper test at Namboole on Saturday. Sabila and Muhabi are gunning for the FIFA badges along side holders Mohammed Ssegonga, Fred Mufta, Dennis Batte and Ali Kalyango. Also in the pipeline for the men in black is the Super League due from October 20.
Liburd Masembe will take his fourth test for a FIFA badge while Brian Nsubuga goes for the third after fruitless previous attempts.
FUFA’s referees standing committee has advised the referees to undertake medicals before the tests.
With cash prizes at stake and the live coverage of the league by GTV, committee secretary Yusuf Kamulegeya called on all referees short listed to undergo a medical a day before the rigorous exercise.
The medicals will take place at FUFA House Mengo on Friday at 2pm. They will include blood pressure tests to avoid repeats of likely collapses that involved Ali Waisswa and Ajab Waisswa and the death of Michael Wakabi in earlier tests.
Kamulegeya said the tests were routine but only the best are recommended to FIFA.
FIFA has allocated FUFA four slots for male and female centre referees. Lady whistler Irene Namubiru will be testing as centre referee alongside Margaret Kubingi and Aisha Semambo who already have FIFA badges.
Ronnie Kalema and Gerald Ddunga are also tipped for FIFA duty.
