NEW national rally champion Ponsiano Lwakataka wants to underline his dominance of the season with another win in the Independence rally next month.

Lwakataka, coming off victory in the UMOSPOC rally that effectively sealed the national title last weekend is chasing a fifth National Rally Championship win.

“I want to sweep everything on the local scene this season. I don’t want anyone else to taste victory this year. I am confident winning five out of the six events on the calendar will make me the driver-of-year,” Lwakataka warned.

“The national title is already in the bag, I will go flat-out because I have nothing to lose.”

Lwakataka won the Masaka, Mbarara, MOSAC and UMOSPOC rallies to capture the national title, his second in a seven-year career.

He dropped out of the Pearl of Africa Uganda rally — an Africa Rally Championship event — in which national championship points were earned as well. Zimbabwean Conrad Rautenbach won the rally.

Lwakataka challenged 2006 national champion Ronald Ssebuguzi to dare him on in the Independence rally October 13-14.
The Independence rally organised by Uganda Motor Club is the final event on the rallying calendar.

The annual rally will mark Uganda’s 45th Independence (Uhuru) anniversary due October 9.
