Man killed over sex-worker

MBARARA-A soldier attached to the Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB) is said to have killed a businessman after they quarrelled over a sex-worker on Monday. “Witnesses said Gersom Amanya picked a quarrel with Jimmy Kiggundu, a resident of Rakai district. Amanya then reached for his gun from a double-cabin pick-up parked nearby and shot Kiggundu,” said Ivan Nkwasiibwe, the district Police commander. Nkwasiibwe said the Police and the UPDF 2nd Division were hunting for the assailant. “I knew him. He has been drinking with us for more than five years. He also worked as a driver of one of the resident district commissioners before he was transferred to PGB as a driver,” a witness said. The PGB spokesman, Lt. Edson Kwesiga, could not deny or confirm that Amanya was a member of PGB. “It could be true that Amanya was a soldier but I am not so sure he was a member of PGB.” The spokesman of the 2nd Division, Lt. Tabaro Kiconco, said Amanya did not belong to the division. He also refused to name Amanya’s unit.
