Dear Dr, I have had a dry cough for the last three weeks. I was put on antibiotics and given injections but the cough has persisted. I was told it is an allergic cough. Recently I started feeling cold liquid logged inside the ribcage on my left whenever I cough. Please advise. Patrick
Dear Patrick, A cough that lasts more than three weeks is always notable. You have mentioned that you got some courses of antibiotics.
You have also said your doctors thought it was an allergic cough. Do you usually have a problem with allergies or has it just started? Allergic coughs are dry and get worse when you are exposed to what you are allergic to.
It is not associated with fever. And if you move away from the allergic thing, the cough resolves quickly. It can be controlled using anti-histamines and cough suppressants.
I do not understand what you mean by ‘cold liquid behind the ribcage’. I suggest that you see a doctor for an examination and possibly an x-ray to determine what exactly is happening to you.
