THE select committee of the Kasese district local council has called for the interdiction of three senior civil servants in the education department over irregularities in the deployment of teachers.

They are senior district education officer Costa Baluku, personnel officer Joshua Miramagho and personnel assistant Azalia Isuka.

In a report to the district council, the committee, chaired by Mustafa Kikusa, also requested the Ministry of Local Government to probe the management of primary schools in the district.

The committee stated that female teachers were not posted to ‘hard-to-reach areas.’

It revealed that Kirembe, Kagando and Kyabarungira primary schools falsely declared excess pupils to get more teachers.

The committee added that most teachers transferred never reported to their new postings and the few who did had disappeared.

It recommended that teachers who refuse to report to their new stations be sacked immediately, those who serve in hard-to-reach areas be given a hardship allowance equivalent to 30% of their salary and that female teachers, who teach in urban schools for more than five years, be transferred to ‘hard-to-reach areas.’

Efforts to get a comment from the civil servants proved futile.
