THE National Forestry Authority (NFA) has auctioned 7,159 pieces of timber worth sh25.5m.

THE National Forestry Authority (NFA) has auctioned 7,159 pieces of timber worth sh25.5m.
“We had set the reserve price for each lot of timber to do away with bidders in need of buying at take-away prices. The turn-up of the buyers has been good despite heavy rains in the morning,†Paul Lunakwita, a supervisor at the timber yard in Nakawa, said.
He said the auctioned species included Musizi, Nkoba, Kirundu and Nkuzanyana measuring 20,036 metres.
“Successful bidders have paid for the timber. The public is free to participate in buying this timber,†Lunakwita said.
The 42nd timber auction took place at the NFA’s headquarters on Wednesday. Some people bought the timber for their own use, while others will resale it.
He said sale of milled timber was still going on although bigger volumes in sizes of (6x2), (4x2) and above were in short supply due to high demand.
