Political leaders should focus on solving the country’s current problems instead of talking about the past, the Dokolo Woman MP has advised.

Cecilia Ogwal accused some politicians of spending a lot of time talking about past events.

“They should instead examine the present, make their input and better our conditions,” Ogwal said last week at the Africa Youth Leadership Forum at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

Giving her experience, Ogwal said when she was agitating for multiparty democracy 15 years ago, some people thought she was crazy.

“When I used to shout about multiparty democracy some people used to say I was crazy. Today they are complaining that I am quiet. It is because I achieved what I wanted.

“I am now thinking of what to say that other people will do 15 years from now.

“You should always think about the future, not the past,” Ogwal said.

Ndorwa West MP David Bahati, one of the organisers, said the youth forum would become part of the activities of the annual National Prayer Breakfast.

“The forum is to mentor young leaders in good leadership skills and to respect God,” Bahati said.
East African MP Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu said leaders should be accountable to their followers.

“Followers should be able to say this is what we want and the leaders should follow suit. We should not shy away from that responsibility as followers.”
