EDITOR—I joined the then East African Posts and Telecommunicatio at age of 20 in 1974. I was offered pensionable terms in 1983 but by 1998 when I was 44 years old I was denied pension, though I had already served for 15 years! Some of my collegues who had served for less than 10 years are enjoying their pension! Where is the justice?

There are about 400 former members of staff of the Uganda Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (UPTC) who are suffering this injustice particularly those who served both the UPTC and Uganda Telecom and were retrenched. The Privatisation Unit has stubbornly refused to pay them!

I am disturbed when someone praises the Privatisation Unit when our children are not going to school and when I hold a valid letter of pension that has no meaning!

What a world we are living in! Why doesn’t the government set up a commission of inquiry into the privatisation of the former UPTC?
